The SVW (Peace Sciences Foundation) was founded in October 2004 by the Stichting Leerstoelen Vredesopbouw (Chairs for Peace Building Foundation) and the Dutch-Flemish Affiliation of Economists for Peace and Security (EPS NL/FL).
The objective of SVW is to make a positive contribution to the process towards enduring world peace. To reach this goal SVW is building a network of (professorial) chairs at Universities and other Institutions of Higher Education.
Besides educational activities the chair holders will do scientific research into the conditions for peace. Every chair approaches these conditions from its own specific angle.
SVW has established two special chairs so far:
- the chair for Economics of Conflict and Peace at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague,
- the chair for Peace Building and the Constitutional State at University of Utrecht.
Respect for human rights expressed in economics and in the constitutional state are fundamental for peace. Besides these special chairs SVW is planning to organize conferences on peace related topics for a wider audience.
